Today was my first day of preliminary examinations for 'O' levels, and as a continuation of my school's tradition (or maybe its in all Singapore Schools?) I had the English Paper first.
English Paper 1 was alright. The Essay Topic was a gift from heaven - Words. When I saw it, I did a silent "YES!" gesture with my hands, you know, when you clench your hand in a fist, and elbow downwards? Yes, that one. My examiner, my dear dear Amath Teacher (and rival for Carine's love, but that's another story) stared at me for a moment. I think. Oops.
Situational was fine, but I think I was too caught up about the content to check my format. A forum letter is hardly situational writing, its more like argumentative in a letter. And with all that practice in Chinese about reprimanding youth's dress sense, and PDAs, this short letter on propriety of today's youths was a blast. I just think that I was overly passionate, and overrided the "polite and non-defensive tone" I was suppose to use. Oops again.
Paper 2 however, KILLED me. RAWR NUCLEAR WAR?!?!
I rather not talk about what I wrote, or how I answered my comprehension questions. But I'll just say that the passage was very interesting and informative. Did you know that lights in Boston are powered by recycled plutonium and HEU (Highly Enriched Uranium) from nuclear weapons? What I never thought about was that the growth in numbers of nuclear weapons could possibly forge world peace. Go ask Bohr and Oppenheimer about it, its really cool.
But its horrible as a comprehension passage. Burr.
